Out of college, IMA is the my first job. Previously, in summers past, I was an intern at Tnemec Co where I helped sourcing raw materials from China to Saudi Arabia while dealing with offices over seas. The summer after my junior year, I worked as a Health and Welfare intern at Lockton in Kansas City. I got to be exposed to what an Insurance Brokerage is and how it worked while meeting with clients on a daily basis and attending many networking opportunities both internally and externally. As my summer project, my focus was international insurance. I got to interview the CEO of Lockton China as well as the CEO of Lockton's subsidiary in France and Lockton Mexico. Not only was this a great learning opportunity, but a great chance to use my languages in the professional setting. After completion, I had the opportunity to present my project to the company. Through this process, I gained valuable experience and knowledge that I have taken to IMA.
What am I doing – describe your current role and objectives:
At IMA, I am working with 3 different producers. Two of the producers that I work with are generalists and the third is a private equity focused producer. I work with the private equity team (based in Dallas) reviewing and reworking policies, creating slide decks, working in excel, and more. I will do this for about a year or so and then transfer over to the production side after gaining the required technical background to produce. On the side, I am working to get different certifications that have proven to be beneficial in the industry (ARM, CPCU, etc.).
Connections trying to make:
I am looking to expand my network and get more involved in the strong SMU alumni association that makes the school so special.
