Class of 2010. Dual Major. BA in Public Policy and Political Science. Dedman Graduate.
Career Background:
Class of 2010 SMU graduate. Member of Beta Theta Pi and member of SMU Ice Hockey club team. Class of 2014 Georgetown University Law Center graduate. Clerkships with the D.C. Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, Chambers of the Honorable James A. Teilborg. Since leaving my clerkship, I have been in private practice in Washington, D.C. with the international vault ranked law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.
What am I doing – describe your current role and objectives:
I am a litigator by trade and in private practice with Pillsbury. I have been with the firm for seven years. I am a Counsel, the most senior non-partner attorney on the partnership track. I practice in the areas of white collar criminal defense and government investigations, complex civil litigation, and I am currently spearheading the firm’s efforts to develop an NCAA/collegiate athletics practice following our successful representation of the University of Kansas and head men’s basketball coach Bill Self in the long-running adidas bribery recruiting criminal prosecutions and subsequent NCAA enforcement actions.
My professional goals, at this stage, are two-fold: (i) to succeed in developing the firm’s collegiate athletics practice (principally NCAA enforcement actions, counseling universities and industry players on the range of legal issues implicating athletics, and NIL/revenue sharing); and (ii) to matriculate to partner within the next 24 months.
Connections trying to make:
I am fairly well plugged into a segment of the SMU community. I have season tickets for football. I contribute to one of our two NIL collectives (PonySportsDTX). I stay in contact with Brad Sutton, whom I worked for as a student volunteer in the AD during my time at SMU. And through a close-knit group of SMU fans/boosters and my fraternity brothers. I would like to (i) expand my relationship network within the larger SMU community, (ii) be more active and involved in the SMU alumni community, (iii) be available as a resource for those in or interested in the practice of law, and (iv) eventually move back to Dallas.
