After law school, I joined my law firm in Houston as an associate working in the area of intellectual property focusing on the areas of preparation and prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. I later became a shareholder, and 3 years ago, I started a new office for my firm based in the North Dallas/Plano/Carrollton area.
What am I doing – describe your current role and objectives:
I supervise patent agents and associates as well perform my own work interviewing clients, drafting patent applications, recommending strategy to in-house counsel, instructing foreign associates in other jurisdictions, and many other tasks advising clients. I also am in charge of hiring students both from undergraduate engineering degrees and law school degrees. This year we have hired one from each of the paths from SMU.
Connections trying to make:
After having been in Houston for 10 years, I have a network that is largely industry specific (intellectual property law) that is not as SMU heavy as I would like. I would like to connect with more SMU alumni to try to advance SMU's reach and to just connect with more people that love SMU the way that I do.
