Not an alum but worked at SMU in fundraising for 8 years
Career Background:
Seven years as an electrical engineer before shifting to fundraising in higher ed. Spent four years at Texas State and eight years at SMU before joining a private equity group that sponsors commercial real estate projects two years ago.
What am I doing – describe your current role and objectives:
Current role is VP of investor relations where I'm responsible for raising capital for our projects which involve the development, acquisition and renovation of multifamily (apartment) communities throughout DFW and Houston.
Connections trying to make:
Generally I'm looking to continue growing my SMU network that I spent eight years building during my employment at SMU. Specifically I'd like to connect with other commercial real estate professionals as well as capital allocators/investment professionals. Side note, I know I'm not an alum of SMU which may disqualify me from membership however I spent more time at SMU than most alumni, and worked hard to enhance the university during my time there (focused on athletics and the improvements that have taken place within the athletic department since 2014). I thought maybe if you were to make an exception to the rule it might be for someone that spent time there raising funds to improve the school!
